Cloud Art ~ Via: Amber Interiors {DIY}

I absolutely adore Amber Interior Design Cloud photograph DIY for her dining room, what a fantastic way to add colour to complement a room.

Here is how she did it:

I took some cool photos of white puffy clouds and had them blown up 28" x 40" on glossy poster paper. It was 30 bucks to blow up and then I framed them in Ribba's from Ikea. I photo shopped the images a bit to make them have that Lomo camera poloroid vibe and Wallah! Big original art for under 60 bucks! Woop Woop!

Happy Blog Birthday {Giveaway}

A year ago today I decided to start this little blog Black Velvet Chair, designed as a self development tool, a little something to scrapbook my design and DIY life whilst entertaining my mind and possibly others. Black Velvet chair has become part of my daily life, reading blogs inspires me continuously and the beautiful friends that have been made far and wide continues to astound me. My very first blog post.

I wanted to buy myself a self present to mark the occasion so I headed over to Kerri’s shop Driftwood Interiors and purchased a print from the “Collected series” for myself, after such positive reaction last Christmas gifting prints to my Mother and Mother In law. True to style with self presents I usually end up purchasing a present equally as brilliant for a friend (I am strange like that). I am super excited to offer one of my bloggy friends this beautiful present:

Giveaway

To be gifted this lovely Pink Floral Watercolor - Bouquet in Flow Blue from Driftwood Interiors you need to be a Black Velvet Chair follower, simply leave a comment letting me know your favourite or most memorable Black Velvet Chair moment or post over the last year. New artwork - Driftwood Interiors

Kerri Shipp of Drifwood interiors has begun a brand new series of interiors portraits, available as original watercolour artwork or fine art prints.

Before it hit the shop I had asked if the original was available for purchase, I instantly fell in love with "Anna's Atelier" The first piece of the series. The artwork is based on a beautiful room designed by Anna Spiro, who is famous for her use of bold colour. The 'Interior Portraits' series features gorgeous interiors based on rooms designed by today's most talented interior designers, and other's born solely from imagination.

The above is Inspired by this gorgeous room (below) from Anna Spiro of black & spiro

The painting arrived beautifully wrapped and perfectly timed on our wedding anniversary day.
It went straight up on the feature wall & love it to bits!
I would love to purchase a few more as I am considering a 3 x 2 arrangement of the large frames.

Here are a few other pictures from the series that I am dreaming of (Pictured linked to Etsy listing)

Such beautiful work! Stay up to date with the new paintings through Kerri's blog:

My very first art purchase

As soon as I saw this stunning painting on my blog roll I knew it had to be mine, for those of you who read Sketch 42 you might remember seeing this painting? Well someone named "Samantha" snatched it up within a few hours.....That was me!!!!

So last Friday I was full of giddy happiness when the DHL man dropped off a large flat box to my office. On a side note- next time the construction crew ask to see your new painting don't show them- I had men asking if I would like to buy their children's artwork. Ummmm OK your child's painting is great but it does not compare to this piece of art.

The real test was on Sunday when hubby returned from a trip away, I was nervous what would he think as he always tells the truth.... Consensus? He loves it "Great colours, good choice hun" (what can I say my man knows good style).

I have placed it in the dining room & coordinated a few bits and pieces on the sideboard to compliment the colours, I feel so lucky that I get to gaze at it when I am in the kitchen as it makes me feel so happy.

I am thinking of a thin silver metal frame to compliment the silver bottom of the Eiffel tower chairs- what do you think?.

I am now pondering what the *stylish* men in the construction crew have on their walls at home?

Lots was achieved over the weekend, lots of eating and catching up with friends, we put the Christmas tree up & I started gift wrapping.

Is your Christmas tree up yet?

Aboriginal Art

Jen from made by girl has just posted about some Aboriginal Art that she purchased (as I am sure most of you are following her have already seen). I just have to say what A Great shout out for Aboriginal Artists. There are so many artist/ paintings on Ebay, a little while ago I became obsessed by a paintings of Medicine leaves, I feel like you can see the wind gusting through the leaves on the painting, unfortunately the painting that I liked did not sell below the amount I was willing to pay for it. Here are a few similar ones:
